[Cultural Heritage in Danger] Cultural Heritage in Danger: Can Cultural Property Legislation ...: You also stated, "I think one of the reasons that debate is heating up on 'ancient coins as cultural property' is because the past decade or two has seen an immense increase in suppliers of ancient coins to meet with a growing demand, which can be credited to the commercialism of the internet and also the networking opportunities that technology provides. In order to keep up with that demand, an increase in supply is needed meaning that large shipments of ancient coins have been intercepted by customs officials and there is an increase of literature that is showing us that the effects of the avocation are not as innocuous as it was once perceived (at least from a general professional point of view)." To that I will respond that you have it backwards.
[Joseph S. O'Leary homepage] Joseph S. O'Leary homepage: The Afterlife of Renaissance Humanism ...: The theme was taken up in Bartolomeo Facios (1400-1457) De excellentia ac praestantia hominis and Giannozzo Manettis (1396-1459) De dignitate et excellentia hominis, both of which were ripostes to Innocent IIIs De miseria conditionis humanae of two centuries earlier (see Kraye, 306), drawing on “the Hermetic doctrine of the theosanthropos [divine man], the focus of all reality” as it celebrated the “great miracle of man” (Vasoli, 65). Pico goes beyond these authors by rejecting the traditional basis of human dignity, based on the location of man as the “microcosm” at a fixed place in creation, and the idea that he acts as “the intermediary between creatures, that he is the familiar of the gods above him as he is the lord of the beings beneath him;

The term is most closely associated with the academic books of Molefi Kete Asante, but the issues should come up in discussions of the works of artists like Romare Bearden, Faith Ringgold, Betye Saar, and Henry Ossawa Tanner, among others.

[The Taylors' Travels] MARK & ANN'S TRIP TO EUROPE HALF OF APRIL, ALL MAY & A BIT OF JUNE ...: Mark had been looking forward to this flight. For some reason no one flies direct from Athens to Paris. We had been offered flights via Frankfurt, and even Helsinki, but we found one eventually via Milan. Mark was hoping than the flight path into Milan airport would afford a view of one of the world’s most iconic motor racing circuits, the Monza Autodrome. Imagine our dismay, therefore, arriving at Athens airport and not finding our flight on the indicator port. We went around looking at all the indicator boards we could find, but none showed our flight. Fortunately, there was a manned Alitalia desk in the terminal, so we approached this to try to find out what was going on. Our booked flight had been cancelled in December. Just as we were starting thinking about Hell being where the Italians are the organisers, we were told that we had been booked on another flight, but this one was going via Rome. So much for seeing Monza. While we were waiting for check-in the departure time of our flight kept being pushed back, and we were becoming concerned about being able to make our connection in Rome, but Alitalia was on top of that, too. Without prompting from us the check-in chick rebooked us to a later Rome-Paris flight. The airline has filed for bankruptcy since our trip, and although it is still flying at last report, its future is uncertain. We hope that these two helpful individuals, at least, can find employment either with a restructured Alitalia or someone else.

For the ancient gods continued to play a role in medieval Christian culture, even though their characters were different from those of the original divinities.
[Spectrum Blog] Unveiling of "Missing Link" Fossil Raises Big Questions | Spectrum: Just as the genealogy of Matthew 1 is arranged in three periods of fourteen generations each by dropping the requisite number of names, so it seems probable that the symmetry of these primitive genealogies is artificial rather than natural. In other words, that the definite number of names fitting into a regular scheme has been selected as sufficiently
[1. MajorityRights.com (main blog)] The Fundamental Flaws of the Holocaust Cult: To decide upon the veracity of the holocau$t myth all that is really necessary is to examine the mechanical processes,today with all of the modern refinements of the technology of cremation ,various companies websites provide all the information that one needs.According to one,it requires a temperature of between 870-980c(1600-1800f) to incinerate a body and takes two hours,after which one is left with bone fragments of all sizes,weighing approx 6lbs for men,and 4lbs for women.Following these known facts it can be deduced that to incinerate 1000 bodies will take 55.5 days operating 24 hours a day,with one oven,half a million,75 years,6 million,450 years,obviously impractical.So an increase in scale is justified,so distribute the six million between the thirteen most prominent camps,461,538 each,now we have 5.76 years working 24 hours a day,and each year it produces 17.60 tons of bone fragments,this is based upon 80 minutes per body,too quick by todays standards.There may be flaws in my maths but i hope that you can see my point.All of this is in isolation,we must make provision for the time taken to kill the victims,the man power involved in the process,the guards to guard them,the supply of foodstuff,general logistics,the 101.38 tons of bone to be disposed of,trains to carry the victims,all of this and fight a war on two fronts at the same time,if any-one else would care to crunch some numbers,to find the true scale of the effort involved ,we can destroy this enourmous lie absolutely dead in its tracks.
[BBC Blog Network] BBC - Peston's Picks: Made off with all our money: check out a £ sterling chart for gold over the last seven years , then also realise that there is ZERO CGT on sovereigns because it is coin of the realm, if you buy bars you are wealthy enough to do it in Zurich and Gordon can go hang , and when the monetary system collapses gold will have a value so high you cannot imagine , a former fed governor suggested last week that the central banks were considering a global devaluation against gold to beat debt deflation, if they do and you are invested in a gold ETF they will tax exceptional gains at some ridiculous rate or rob your gold , so keep it private and keep it safe and gold will keep you safe.

[Passages] Passages » Opinion Blog » International Herald Tribune » Blog ...: Unhappy that one could not -in parlor conversation- employ a German term, Wilhelm Marr set out to coin a more acceptable term. The original, der Judenhaß, which translates as Jew Hate, was just too blunt, so, he reasoned, lovers of classical language that we are, he would devise a term from classical language, and we would accept it.
