[Art Blart] Exhibition: 'Ron Arad: No Discipline' at The Museum of Modern Art ...: Ever since he founded his studio, together with long-time business partner Caroline Thorman, in 1981 (first called One Off, and then reestablished in 1989 as Ron Arad Associates), Arad has produced an outstanding array of innovative objects, from limited editions to unlimited series, from carbon fiber armchairs to polyurethane bottle racks. A designer and an architect, trained at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem and at London’s Architectural Association School of Architecture, he has also designed memorable spaces –

[blog] Ron Arad exhibition at the MoMA: No Discipline : blog: Here Arad's rambunctious, often hugely influential designs and objects--his Restless Chairs and Readymades, his Wavys and Infinities, his Voids and Misfits--have been integrated into and displayed on and around the swirling, swooping Cage Sans Frontieres, which the artist created especially for the MoMA exhibit. The result is a sort of mischievous, free-spirited harmony, celebrating Ron Arad's career as an industrial designer, an avowed maverick, a design-artist, a visionary, an architect, and any and all other labels that have been applied to Ron Arad and his work over the course of the last thirty-odd years.

Likewise entire evolutions may be followed, from the bent cold steel rolls of his "Tempered Chairs" to the curvy bulk of his "Big Easy" armchairs which were finally mass produced by Moroso years after the introduction of the Tempered Chairs.

[artnet Magazine] Ron Arad at the MoMA - artnet Magazine: The high-sheen furniture of Israeli-born, London-based designer Ron Arad, 58, has long been de rigueur for deep-pocketed design collectors, with some forking over $1 million for a single chair. But now with the Museum of Modern Art debuting the first major retrospective devoted to his career, Arad’s prices, along with his stature, seem ready to climb to even more stratospheric heights.

[Apartment Therapy New York] Ron Arad: No Discipline The Museum of Modern Art | Apartment ...: To display the work for the show, Arad himself created a huge stainless steel structure, named the Cage Sans Frontières (Cage Without Borders). The Cage takes up the entire gallery space and holds most of the pieces in the show, like Box in Four Movements, his iconic Ripple Chairs, and Bouncing Vases.
